Date of Birth of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam

Date of Birth of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘Alaihi wa Sallam

Date of Birth of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was sharply disputed. Some say that he was born on 2 Rabi-Early, Early Rabiul 8, 10 Rabiul Awal, 12 Rabiul Awal, 17 Rabiul Awal (See al-wa Bidayah Nihayah Ibn Katheer: 2 / 260 and Ibn Rojab Latho’iful Ma’arif pp. 184-185). All opinions are not based on the hadith is authentic. As for the hadith of Ibn Abbas and Jabir radhiallahu ‘anhuma stating that the date of birth of the Prophet sallallaahu’ alaihi wa sallam is the 12th of Rabi-Start is not authentic. Even if authentic, would certainly be a judge (breaker case) in this issue. However, Ibn Kathir rahimahullah said about the hadith, “Sanadnya disconnected.” (Al-wan Bidayah Nihayah of Ibn Rajab pp. 184-185)

Since the determination of the birthday of his sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam nothing is authentic, it does not matter if we’re quoting the opinion of astronomers. Many astronomers believe that the day of his birth is on the 9th of Rabi-Early, like al-Ustadz Mahmud al-Falaki Basya, al-Ustadz Muhammad Sulaiman al-Mansur Fauri (As quoted by al-Mubarokfuri Shofiyurrohman in ar-Rahiqul Makhtum pp. 62 ), and al-Ustadz Abdullah ibn Ibrahim ibn Muhammad as-Sulaim, he said,

“In the books of history and it is said that the Prophet shallallahu’alaihi siroh wa sallam was born on Monday the 10th, or 8, or 12 and was chosen by a majority of scholars. Has remained without a doubt that he was born on 20 April 571 AD (the year the Elephant), as has been fixed, too, that he passed away on 13 Rabi-Early 11 H which coincides with the June 6 632 M. While these dates are already known, it can easily be known the day of birth and his death is apt, as well as the age of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. By changing these years on count day will see 22 330 days and if converted to year will qamariyyah ketemulah that his age of 63 years over three days. Thus, the day of his birth is Monday 9 Rabiul Beginning 53 years before Hijra, coinciding with the 20 April 571 AD (Taqwimul Azman pp. 143, first cet 1404 H)

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen said, “Some astronomers have recently examined the date of the birth of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was dropped on 9 Rabi-Early, Early Rabiul instead of 12.” (Al-Mufid Qaulul’ ala The Book of Tauhid: 1 / 491. Dinukil of Ma Sya’a Sirah wa Lam Yatsbut fis Nabawiyyah pp. 7-8 by Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Ausyan)
