Reading Al-Fatihah

READING AL-Fatihah

Legal Reading Al-Fatihah

Reading Al-Fatihah is one of the many pillars of prayer, so if in prayer do not read Al-Fatihah prayer is invalid based on the words of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam (which means):

“Not considered prayer (unauthorized prayer) for those who do not read Al-Fatihah”
(Saheeh hadeeth issued by Al-Jama: the Al-Ima

m Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa-i, and Ibn Majah).

“Those who pray without reading Al-Fatiha is the prayer maimed, maimed prayer, prayer stump … not perfect”
(Saheeh hadeeth issued by Al-Imam Muslim and Abu ‘Awwanah).

When We Mandatory Reading Surah Al-Fatihah

It is clear to us when he was praying alone (munfarid) then it is obligatory to read Al-Fatihah, so did the congregation while the priest read prayers in sirr (not heard) that the prayer Dhuhr, ‘Ashr, one last roka’at Mahgrib prayers and roka’at last two prayers’ Isyak, then the congregati

on must read surah Al-Fatihah is independently a sirr (not hardened).

So what if the priest is hard to read …?

About this Shaykh Al-Albani said that the Prophet never forbade congregation behind the imam reads the letter except the letter of Al-Fatihah:

“Am I correct that you were reading (letter) behind your priest?” We answer: “Yes, but quickly, O Allah’s Apostle.” Apostle said: “You must not do it anymore except to read Al-Fatihah, because there is no prayer for those who do not read it.”

(Hadith issued by Al-Imam Al-Bukhari, Abu Dawud, and Ahmad, dihasankan by At-Tirmidhi and Ad-Daraquthni)

Then he sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam forbade any congregation while the priest read a letter read by Jahr (played) both the Al-Fatihah or any other letter. This is in accordance with the description of Al-Imam Malik and Ahmad ibn Hanbal is obligatory silent congregation when the priest read Jahr / hard. Based on the directives of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam:

From Abu Hurairah, he said: It has been said, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam: “cite this as a priest only to be followed. Therefore, if the priest Takbir, then bertakbirlah you, and when the priest read, then let you rest (looking at the priest’s reading ) … ”
(Saheeh hadeeth issued by Imam Ahmad,

Abu Dawud no. 603 & 604. Ibn Majah no. 846, An-Nasa-i. Imam Muslim said: This hadeeth is Saheeh in my view).

“Anyone who followed the priests prayer (bermakmum), then reading the priest has been reading too.”
(Hadith issued by Imam Ibn Abi Syaibah, Ad-Daraquthni, Ibn Majah, and Ahmad Thahawi Irwa see the book by Shaykh-ul Ghalil Al-Albani).

From Abu Hurairah, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam after establishing that he harden bacaanya prayer in the prayer, he asked: “Is there anyone among you who read with me again?” Then a man ans

wered, “Yes there is, Messenger of Allah.” Then he said, “Truly I say: Why (reading) I was opposed to al-Qur’an (as well).” Abu Hurairah said, then stop people from reading together the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam to pray the prayer of the Messenger-harden his reading, when they’ve heard (the ban) so that the Prophet sallallaahu’ alaihi wa sallam.
(Hadith issued by Abu Dawood, At-Tirmidhi, An-Nasa i and Malik. Menshahihkannya Abu Hatim Al Razi, Imam Tirmidhi said it hasan hadeeth).

Hadiths is a firm and strong arguments a

bout the mandatory silence when the congregation heard the priest reading, both Al-Fatihahnya or another letter. In addition, based on the word of Allaah (which means):

“And when read Al-Qur’an to let you listen to it and be silent, watching (reading), so that you have been given grace.” (Al-A’raf: 204).

This verse came from the general shape that is where we hear the reading of Al-Qur’an, either in prayer or outside prayer shall still hear it though because the decline in respect of prayer. But the generality of this paragraph has become specialized and specific (obligatory) onl

y for prayers, as has been explained by Ibn Abbas, Mujahid, Sa’id bin Jubair, Adh Dhohak, Qotadah, Ibarahim Nakha An-i, Abdur-Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam and more another. See Tafseer Ibn Katheer II/280-281.

How To Read Al-Fatiha

The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam re

ad surah Al-Fatihah in every roka’at. Read it with a stop at the end of each paragraph (waqof), do not connect one paragraph to the next verse (washol) based on the hadith narrated by Abu Dawood, Sahmi and ‘Amr Ad Dani, classed as saheeh by the Judge, is approved Adh-Dzahabi.

So reads:

Then stop,

Then stop,

Then stop,

That’s on until the last verse is complete.

Someone Had Not Memorize Al-Fatihah

For someone who had memorized Al-Fatihah, especially for those new to Islam, of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam ha

s provided a solution. Advice for people who have not memorized Al-Fatihah (of course he has no right to be a priest):
Say:

SUBHANALLAHI, WALHAMDULILLAHI, WA LAA ILAHA ILLALLAHU, WALLAHU AKBAR, WALAA HAULA WALAA QUWWATA ILLA BILLAHI

meaning:
“Glory to Allah, All praise belongs to Allah, there is no Ilah (of truth) except Allah, Allah is Great, No power and strength except by Allah’s help.”
(Saheeh hadeeth issued by Al-Imam Abu Dawud, Ibn Khuzaimah, Hakim, and Ibn Hibban Thabrani validated by the judge and approved by the Ad-Dzahabi).
Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam also said:
“If you memorize some verses of the Qur’an then read the verse, if not then read Tahmid, Takbir and Tahlil.”
(Hadith issued by Abu Dawood and At-Tirmidhi dihasankan by al-Tirmidhi, but sanadnya hadeeth, see Saheeh Abi Dawud, hadith no. 807).
