Prophet Abraham(Ibrahim) As
Some of the people of the Scripture said that his name was Abraham Ibn Tarikh, Ibn Nahur, Sarough Ibn, Ibn Raghu, Ibn Phaligh, Ibn Aher, Ibn Shalih, Arfghshand Ibn, Ibn Sam, Ibn Noah.
They said that when he was 75 years old Tarikh, had Abraham, Nahor (Nohour) and Haran. Haran had a son named Lot. They also said that Abraham was the middle child and that Haran died in the lifetime of his father in the land where he was born, the land of the Chaldeans (Al Kaldanieen), also known as Babylon. At that time some people worshiped idols of stone and wood, others worshiped the planets, stars, sun and moon, and others worshiped their kings and rulers.
Abraham was born in that atmosphere, in a typical family of that ancient time. The head of the family was not even an ordinary idolater, but one that was totally rejected Allah and who used to make idols with their own hands. Some traditions claimed that Abraham’s father died before his birth and he was raised by an uncle who called Abraham father. Other traditions said that his father was alive and was named Azer.
In that family Abraham was destined to stand against his family, against the whole system of his community. In short, he stood against all kinds of polytheism.
He was endowed with spiritual understanding from an early age. Allah enlightened his heart and mind gave him wisdom from childhood. Allah the Almighty said: Indeed we have long ago on Abraham his (portion of) guidance, and we were well acquainted with him (as his faith in the Oneness of Allah, etc..) (Ch 21:51)
During his childhood, Abraham realized that his father made strange statues. One day, asked him what he did. The father replied that he made statues of deities. Abraham was astonished and he spontaneously rejected the idea. Being a child has played with such statues sitting on their backs as people sit on the backs of donkeys and mules.
One day his father saw him riding the statue of Mardukh and became furious. He ordered his son not to play with him again.
Abraham asked: “What is this statue, the father has big ears, bigger than us?”.
The father replied: “It ‘Mardukh, the god of gods, son These big ears show his deep knowledge.”
This made me laugh Abraham was only seven years old at that time.
Years passed and Abraham grew. Since childhood, his heart was full of hatred for these idols. He could not understand how any sane person could make a statue and then worship what he had done. He noticed that these idols did not eat, drink or talk and could not even turn right up if someone flipped. How, then people might think that these statues could harm or benefit them?
People of Abraham ‘s had a big temple full of idols, in the middle of which was a niche to accommodate the largest of which were of various types, qualities and shapes. Abraham, who used to go to the temple with his father when he was a child, greatly despised all that wood and stone. What surprised him was the way his people behaved when they entered the temple, bowed and began to cry, begging and imploring their gods for help, as if the idols could hear or understand these requests!
At first, it seemed such a fun show to Abraham, but then began to feel angry. It was not surprising that all these people could be deceived? What added to the problem was that his father wanted him to be a priest when he grew up. He wanted nothing more to her son that they worship the statues, but never stopped Abraham display his hatred and contempt of them.
One night Abraham left his home to go to a mountain. He walked alone in the dark until he chose a cave in the mountain where he sat resting his back against the wall. He looked at the sky. He had just seen, when he remembered he was looking at the planets and stars were worshiped by some people on earth. His young heart was filled with tremendous pain. He considered what was beyond the moon, the stars and planets (ie Allah) and was astonished that these celestial bodies were adored by men, when they were created to worship and obey their Creator, appearing and disappearing at His command .
So Abraham, to his people who worshiped the heavenly bodies as Allah the Almighty revealed: And so we show the kingdom of heaven and earth that he is one of those who have faith and confidence Abraham. When the night covered with darkness he saw a star. He said: “This is my lord.” But when together, said: “I do not like people together.” When he saw the moon rising, he said: “This is my lord.” But when it set he said: “Unless my Lord guide me, I shall surely be among the wandering people.” When he saw the sun rise up said: “This is my lord, this is bigger.” But when it set he said: ” O my people, I am indeed free from all that are joined together as partners in worship of Allah in truth, I have turned my face towards Him Who created the heavens and the earth Hanifan (Islamic Monotheism!., ie to worship none but Allah Alone) and I am not of the mushrikeen (those who worship others besides Allah). ”
His people disputed with him. He said: “Do you dispute with me concerning Allah while He has guided me and I do not fear those you associate with God in worship (Nothing can happen to me) except when my Lord (Allah) wants something My Lord .. His knowledge includes all things. Do not you want?
“And how should I fear those who are associated with the worship of Allah (even though it can neither good nor bad), while there are fears that we are united in the worship of Allah for the things that has not sent down any authority over you. So which of the two parties has more right to be safe? If you but know. ”
It is those who believe (in the Oneness’ of Allah and worship none but Him alone) and not confuse their faith with zulm (wrong, that is to worship others besides Allah), for them there only the safety and driving. And that was our test that we gave to Abraham against his people. We raise whom We will in degrees. Certainly your Lord is All Wise, all-knowing. (Ch 6:75-83 Quran).
In that debate, Abraham clarified to his people that these celestial bodies do not serve as deities and can not be worshiped as a partner with Allah the Almighty. In fact these bodies are created things, fashion, controlled, operated and designed to serve. They appear and disappear at other times, going out of sight from our world. However, Allah the Almighty does not lose sight of anything, and nothing can be hidden from him. He is without end, everlasting without disappearance. There is no god but Allah.
Abraham made clear to them before the celestial bodies are unworthy of worship and the second that they are among the signs of Allah. Almighty Allah commanded: And from among His Signs are the night and day, and the sun and the moon. Prostrate, not the sun nor the moon, but prostrate to Allah who created them, if you really love it. (Ch 41:37)
Abraham’s reasoning helped to reveal the truth, and then the conflict between him and his people began to worship the stars and planets do not stand mute. have begun to discuss and threatening Abraham.
Abraham said: “This dispute with me concerning Allah while I drove, and do not be afraid of those who you associate with God in worship (Nothing can happen to me except when my Lord (Allah) wants something of mine includes Lord .. His knowledge all things. Do not you want? How should I fear those who are associated with the worship of Allah (even though it can neither benefit or harm), while there are fears that they are united in the worship of Allah , things that have not sent down any authority over you. SO which of the two parties has more right to be safe? ….. but if you know! It is those who believe (in the oneness of Allah and of worship, but none HiAlone) and not confuse their faith with zulm (wrong to worship others besides Allah), for them there is only the safety and driving. “(Ch 6:80-82)
The curtains are drawn on the first category of people, those who were worshiping the heavenly bodies. shows the situation after the second group, those who practiced idolatry. God gave to Abraham (as) the reasoning he needed the first time and every time I argued with his people. Allah the Almighty said: And this was our test that we gave to Abraham against his people. We have raised which will be in degrees. Certainly your Lord is All Wise, all-knowing. (Ch 6:83)
Abraham did his best to make people attentive to his faith in the oneness of Almighty Allah and worship Him alone. Invited them to firmly renounce the worship of idols. He said to his father and his people: “What are these images, which are devoted?” said: “We found our fathers worshiping them.” He said: “Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error.” They said: “You brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play on?” He said: “No, your Lord is Lord of heaven and earth, who created them and that I am the witness.” (Ch 21:52-56)
Everything was finished between Abraham and his people and the fight began. the most amazed and furious was his father (or his uncle who raised him), as it is well known, not only worshiped idols but sculpted and sold them. Abraham considered his duty as a good son of his father advised against this evil so that he could be saved from the punishment of Allah.
Being a wise son did his father feel foolish, nor did he openly scoffed at his conduct. She told him she loved him, hoping to generate fatherly love. Then gently asked him why he loved the lifeless idols who could not hear, see or protect him. before his father could become angry in a hurry, added: “In truth, O my father has come to me to know what did not come to you So follow me I will guide you on the right path, or my father did not worship Satan !…! . truth! Stan was a rebel against the Most Gracious (Allah). O my father! Verily, I fear that a torment from the Most Beneficent (Allah) overtake you like to become a companion of Satan (in the Hellfire). ”
He (the father) said: “You reject my gods, O Abraham, if not stop this, I really get away from you So rock me safely before they will punish you? ..” Abraham said: “Peace be upon you to ask forgiveness of my Lord for you: Verily He is to me, the Compassionate And I never turn away from you and from those who call upon besides Allah !.!..” (Ch 19:43-48)
Harsh treatment of his father Abraham did not stop to deliver the message of truth. Angry and sad to see people prostate before idols, he was determined to eradicate such practices and went to town to discuss with people knowing that it might suffer.
Like a wise doctor searching for the cause of a disease in order to prescribe the proper treatment, or as a judge who has sharply questioned the accused so that he power to detect the truth. Abraham asked them: “Do the idols see you when you prostrate before them will not benefit in any way?”. They immediately tried to defend their beliefs. They claimed that they knew the idols were lifeless but that their ancestors had worshiped for them this was proof enough for their faith.
Abraham explained that their ancestors had been wrong. This angered them and said, “Are you condemning our gods and our ancestors Or are you just kidding”
Abraham showed no fear as he replied. “I’m serious, I come to you with a true religion I was sent under the guidance of our Lord who alone is worthy of worship, which is the Creator of heaven and earth, e. that regulates all affairs of life, unlike the dumb idols which are just stone and wood. ”
To convince them that the idols could not harm him, he challenged: “I have already condemned, for they had no power would damage me now!”
Allah the Almighty said: Tell them the story of Abraham. When he said to his father and his people. “What do you worship?” They said: “We worship idols, and there are always devoted to them.” He said: “They have heard that when you call on them or do not benefit or hurt?” They said: “No, but we found our father doing so.”
He said: “Do not you look at what you have been to worship, You and your ancient fathers, they are enemies of truth for me, except that the Lord of the Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists), who created me and that is it?!. He who guides me and it is he who feeds me and gives me something to drink and when I am ill, it is he who treated me, and who will kill me and then I will bring to life and that I hope will forgive me my sins on the Day of Resurrection. ” (Ch 26:69-82 Quran).
In another surah The Almighty revealed: And remember when Abraham said to his people: “to worship Allah alone and the fear that he is better for you if you knew you worship besides Allah only idols, and you only invent falsehood Indeed, .. those whom you worship besides Allah have no power to give you provision, so seek your provision from Allah alone, you will be returned. And if you deny nations before you have denied their messengers. Messenger’s duty is only to convey the message clearly. ”
They do not see how Allah originates creation and then regret it. In truth, it is easy for Allah.
Of ‘:’ Journey to the land and see how Allah origin of creation and then Allah will bring forth (resurrect) the creation of (ie resurrection after death) Here Allah is able to do all things. ”
It punishes those who want to and show mercy to whom He will and He will be returned. And you can not escape from the earth or in heaven. And then Allah will not have any Wali (protector or guardian) or Helper. And those who do not believe in (proofs, lessons, signs, evidences, verses, revelations etc) of the Ayat Allah and the meeting with Him, to them who have no hope of My Mercy, and it is they who will have a painful punishment. (Quran 22:16-23 CH)
He explained to them the beauty of Allah’s creation, His power and wisdom. Idolatry is detested by Allah for Allah is the Lord of the universe who created mankind, guided him and provided him with food and drinks and treated him when he was sick and who will die and be resurrected. Abraham was the one who prayed and Who would forgive his sins on the Day of Judgement. However, they did not give up but clung fast to idolatry.
Abraham left his father’s house and abandoned his people and what they worshiped. He decides to do something for their state of disbelief, but never revealed. He knew that there would be a big party on the banks of the river that would be attended by all people. Abraham waited until the city was empty, then came out cautiously, directing his steps towards the temple. the roads leading to it were empty and the temple itself was deserted for the priests had gone to the party out of town.
Abraham went, bringing sharp ax. He looked at the stone and wooden statues of the gods and the food in front of them as offerings. He approached one of the statues and asked: “. The food in front of you is cool because you do not eat” the statue kept silent and rigid. Abraham asked all the other statues around him: “I do not want to eat the offering before you?” (Ch 37:91)
He was mocking them for he knew that would not eat. He once again asked then: “What is the matter with you who do not speak?” (Ch 37:92)
then he raised his ax and started destroying the false gods worshiped by the people. They destroyed all but one on whose neck he hung the ax. After this his anger subsides and he felt at peace. He left the temple. He had fulfilled his vow to show his people a practical proof of their folly to worship something other than everything.
When the people returned, they were shocked to see their gods to pieces, lying scattered around the temple. They began to guess who had done that to their idols and the name of Abraham came to their minds.
Allah the Almighty said: they said. “Who has done this to our Aliah (s) he must in fact be one of the criminals” They said: “We heard a young man talking against them that is called Abraham.” They said: “Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they can testify.” said: “Are you he who has done this to our gods, Abraham?” Abraham said: “No, this is the largest of them (idols) did it, ask them if they can talk!”
So he turned to them and said. “Truly you are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers)” Then he turned to themselves (their first thought and said): “Indeed you (Abraham) know well that these idols do not speak ? ” Abraham said: “Have you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you nor hurt you if on you, and what you worship besides Allah you then no sense?!?” (Ch 21:59-67 Quran)
Furious, they demanded that Abraham be arrested and prosecuted. Abraham did not resist. This was exactly what I was aiming, so that he could appear in public for their foolish beliefs.
At the trial they asked him if he was responsible for breaking the idols. Smiling, he told them to ask the greatest idol that was still whole. He told them to be the culprit! They told me that he knew that the idol could not speak or move which gave Abraham the chance to show the folly to worship these lifeless objects.
They then realized the senselessness of their beliefs, but their arrogance would not allow them to admit their foolishness. All they could do was to use their power of authority as tyrants usually to punish Abraham. Kept him in chains and planned their revenge.
Anger was burning in their hearts. Abraham decided to throw in the biggest fire they could build. All citizens were ordered to collect firewood as a service to their gods. Ignorant, sick women vowed that if they had been cured he would donate so much wood to burn Abraham. For several days I collected fuel.
They dug a deep pit, filled it with wood and lit it. They brought a catapult with which Abraham thrown into the fire. Abraham was put on the catapult, his hands and feet were tied. The fire was ready with its flame reaching the sky. The people were out of the pit because of the great heat. Then the high priest gave his order to cast Abraham into the fire.
The angel Gabriel came near Abraham’s head and asked: “O Abraham want for nothing,” Abraham answered: “Nothing from you.”
The catapult was shot, and Abram was cast into the fire. But his descent into the blaze was down on the stairs in a beautiful garden. The flames were still there, but do not burn for Allah the Almighty had issued His command: “You, O fire freshness and safety for Abraham!”. (Ch 21:69 Quran)
The fire submitted to the will of Allah, becoming cool and safe for Abraham. And ‘only burned his bonds, and sat in the midst of the fire as if he were sitting in a garden. He glorified and praised Allah the Almighty, with a heart that contained only his love for Allah. There was a space in it, for fear, fear or worry. IT was full of love alone.
Fear and awe were dead, and the fire was turned into coolness, making the air pleasant. Those who love God, as Abraham has no fear.
Allah said: They (the believers) unto whom the people (hypocrites) said. “Verily the people (pagans) have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them,” but not only increase them in faith, and they say. Allah alone is enough for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs for us ”
So they returned with Grace and Bounty from Allah. No harm touched them, and then have the pleasure of Allah. Allah is the owner of large size. And ‘only Satan that suggests to you the fear of his Auliya (supporters and friends, polytheists, disbeliveers in unity’ of Allah and His Messenger Muhammad) so fear them not but fear Me if you are believers “(Chapter 3.: 173-175 Quran)
The crowd, the leaders, the priests sad watching the fire from a distance. It was burning their faces and almost suffocating them. And ‘held on for so long that the thought would never disbeliveers off. When it does burn, were greatly amazed to find Abraham coming out of the pit untouched by the fire. Their faces were blacks from the smoke, but his was bright with light and grace of Allah. The raging fire had become cool for Abraham and had only charred the ropes which held him. The fire went out as if walking on a garden. Cries of astonishment were heard from the pagans. They wanted to hurt him, but we made them the worst losers. (Ch 21:70)
This miracle shame the tyrants, but not cool the flame of anger in their hearts. However after his event many of the people followed Abraham, although some kept their belief a secret for fear of injury or death at the hands of the rulers.
Abraham had established a clear argument against the idolaters. Nothing was left for him except to reason against the people who proclaimed divinity.
When the king, Namrud, heard of Abraham’s safe exit from the fire became very angry. He feared that the status of divinity that had proclaimed itself was not challenged by an ordinary human being. He called Abraham to the palace and held a dialogue with him that Allah Almighty has said: You have not thought about him who disputed with Abraham about his Lord (Allah), because God had given him the kingdom? When Abraham said to him: “My Lord (Allah) is He Who gives life and causes death.” He said: “I give life and cause death.” Abraham said: “Verily, Allah makes the sun rise from the east, then cause an increase from the west.” So the disbeliever was completely defeated. Allah does not guide people who are Zalimeen (wrongdoers, etc..) (Qur’an Ch 2:258)
Abraham’s fame spread throughout the entire kingdom. People have talked about how he was saved from the fire burning and how he had discussed with the king and left him speechless. In the meantime, Abraham continued calling people to believe in Allah, exerting a great effort to lead his people into line. He tried every means to convince them. But despite his love and care of his people, they felt angry and deserted him. Only a woman and a man of his people shared his faith in Allah. The woman’s name was Sarah and she became his wife. The man’s name was Lot and became a prophet.
When Abraham realized that no one was to believe in his calling, he decided to emigrate. He left his people and traveled with his wife and Lot to a city called Ur, then another called Haran, and then in Palestine.
Allah the Almighty told us: So Lut believed in him (Abraham’s message of Islamic Monotheism). He (Abraham) said: “I will emigrate for the sake of my Lord, Verily, He is the Mighty, the All Wise ..” (Ch 29:26)
After Palestine, Abraham traveled to Egypt, calling people to believe in Allah wherever they traveled, judging fairly between people, and guiding them to truth and justice.
Abu Hurairah narrated that Abraham (peace be upon him) did not tell a lie except on three occasions, twice for the sake of Allah (Exalted and Almighty) when he said: “I am sick” (when his people were in possession a festival in honor of their gods, Abraham excused himself by saying that he was sick (Ch 37:89 Quran) and when he said: “.. (I have not done this, but) the big idol has done” The (third) that while Abraham and Sarah (his wife) would (a trip), went from (territory of) a tyrant to tyrant Someone said: “.. This man (Abraham is accompanied by a very charming lady” SO, sent for Abraham and Sarah asked him, saying, “Who is this lady,” Abraham said: “It ‘my sister.” Abraham went to Sarah said “O Sarah There are no believers on the surface of the earth except you and me Quest ‘asked a man!. you and me I said you are my sister do not contradict my statement. “The tyrant then called Sarah, and when he went to him, tried to take a hold of her hand , but his hand was stiff and he was confused he asked Sarah: “.. pray to Allah for me and I do not give you” SO Sarah asked Allah to cure him and he took care has tried to grab the second time, but its hand. got stiff as or stiffer than before and was more comfounded He again requested Sarah: “.. pray to Allah for me, and I do not give you” Sarah asked Allah again, and became all right then called one. of his guards who had brought and said: “.. You did not bring a human being, but they brought me a devil” The tyrant then gave Hajar as a maid to Sarah Abraham, gesturing with his hand , asked: “What? happened,” she said, “Allah has spoiled the evil plot of the infidel or immoral person and gave me Hajar for service” Abu Hurairah then addressed his listeners saying. “Hajar was your mother or Bani But Sama (Arab, the descendants of Ishmael, son of Hajar). ”
Abraham’s wife Sarah was barren. Was given a Egyptian woman Hajar, as a servant. Abraham had aged and his hair was gray and after many years spent in calling people to Allah. Sarah thought she and Abraham were only because he could not have a child. Therefore, she offered her husband’s servant Hajar in marriage. Hajar gave birth to her first son Ishmael (Ishmael), when Abraham was an old man.
Abraham lived on earth to worship Allah and calling people to monotheism, but it was on the road to Allah, knowing that his days on earth are limited and that would be followed by death and finally resurrection. The knowledge of life after the death of Abraham full of love and peace and certainty.
One day he asked Allah to show him how He brought the dead to life. God commanded Abraham to take four birds, cut them and mingle their body parts, divide them into four parts and put them on top of four different hills, the birds calling in the name of Allah. Abraham did as he was told. Immediately mix the parts of birds separated to join their original bodies in different places and the birds flew to Abraham.
Almighty Allah revealed: Remember when Abraham said. “My Lord, show me how to give life to the dead” Allah said: “Do not you think?” Abraham said: “Yes, I believe, but to be stronger in faith.” He said:. “Take four birds, their cause to incline towards you (then slaughter them, cut them into pieces) and then put them in a part of every hill and call them will come to you in a hurry and know that Allah is Almighty and All wise.” (Ch 2:260 Quran)
