Debate is Bad
From Abu Umaamah radhiallahu anhu he said: The Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa Salam said:
ما ضل قوم بعد هدى كانوا عليه إلا أوتوا الجدل ثم تلا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم هذه الآية: ما ضربوه لك إلا جدلا بل هم قوم خصمون
“It is not a people astray after they had been above instructions except that they are a people who love to debate.” Then he read this verse, “They do not give it to you but the parable with the intention of debating it, in fact they were a quarrelsome. “(Surah Az-Zukhruf: 58) (Narrated by At-Tirmidhi no. 3253, Ibn Majah no. 47, and declared hasan by al-Albani in Saheeh al-Jami ‘no. 5633)
From Aisha radhiallahu ‘anha of the Prophet sallallaahu’ alaihi wasallam, he said:
إن أبغض الرجال إلى الله الألد الخصم
“Surely the most wrath of God is the most harsh and challenging hostility if proof be explained to him”. (Narrated by Al-Bukhari no. 2457 and Muslim no. 2668)
From Abu Umaamah radhiallahu anhu he said: The Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam said:
أنا زعيم ببيت في ربض الجنة لمن ترك المراء وإن كان محقا وببيت في وسط الجنة لمن ترك الكذب وإن كان مازحا وببيت في أعلى الجنة لمن حسن خلقه
“I’ll guarantee a house on the edge of heaven for anyone who left the debate even though he is right. I also guarantee a house in the middle of paradise for anyone who leaves a lie even though he was joking. And I guarantee a house in the highest heaven for those who have a certain good. “(Narrated by Abu Dawud no. 4800 and declared hasan by al-Albani in Saheeh al-Jami ‘no. 1464)
The debate within the religion that is incompatible with the rules syar’i is one of oral diseases is extremely dangerous. He is the cause of discord, separation, away from each other among the Muslims. The debate can also be loud and crowded because the liver due to give birth to envy to other Muslims, plus the amount of time wasted due to this debate and the lack of benefits that were born from it.
Hence Allaah and His Messenger has closed all Wasilah leads to a useless debate, with the promise of heaven to those who left the debate even though he is right, and vice versa God is very angry with people who engage in the debate bergampangan without heeding Shari’a rules in it.
And has been true God and His Messenger, that everyone who jumped into a useless debate would have ended up in error, except those who are still blessed by God, and very few number of them are. Do not we take a lesson from people who have gone before us, that they are more knowledgeable than we are, how they eventually fall into the error due to their debate on the issue of religion, although there are a handful of them could still return to the truth. Call it include: Jahm Safwan bin spreader Jahmiah school, Wasil ibn Atha ‘originator school Mu’tazilite, Imam Al-Ghazali, Razi Fakhrur, Ash-Syahrastani, and much more.
Hence the scholars in every era confirmed in the books of their creed, that among typical Ahlussunnah is away from all forms of debate. Therefore anyone who is engaged in debate within the religion he had been playing in restricted areas, which could remove him from Ahlussunnah. It’s just that even so, the scholars still provide very strict requirements about when the debate is permissible. That’s because there are a handful of scholars (not many) are known to hold a debate with the followers of the passions (like Imam Ahmad, Uthman ibn Said Ad-Darimi, and Ibn Taimiah), even the nabipun argued with his people.
Then this indicates that the legal origin of the debate in religion is forbidden, unless the conditions are met, namely:
1. Ikhlas sentence in order to exalt God, not with the intention to become famous.
2. People who argue should be well-established knowledge on which he debated the issue. If he’s the ignorant or the knowledge is still patchy then prohibited it
3. He believes large-or suspected-he can win. If he was not sure I can win then he must leave that debate.
4. It’s possible opponents if he loses then he will return to the truth. If the opponent is known as being stubborn and will not repent even if lose then not be argued with.
5. If he does not argue the truth will be covered and who will spread evil.
6. There are serious benefits from it, either return to the party opposed to him who repent and return to society with their opponents away from it. As if there is no benefit at all, even though they lost, but people still did not waver in this debate to follow them then it is a futile act.
